Highly popular from about 1790 to 1840 silhouettes were the only way a working class person could have a portrait done of themselves as photographs were not yet commonplace and extremely expensive. We have incorporated the Lister’s iconic Crypt Hand code, along with Anne's signature in this artwork to create an alternative twist to our interpretation of a ‘Victorian’ era keepsake.
 
Here we capture one of the only three images we know of that gives us some idea of what Anne looked like. Originally painted by Joshua Horner (1784‐1867) who Anne knew extremely well as she had him work on several projects around Shibden, including the portrait of her father James Lister.
Sadly, Anne may never have got to seen this equivalent of a modern day selfie but we kinda hope she did.
